“Honest feedback is perhaps the single most important factor when trying to evaluate a leader’s impact on others.”  - -   C.W. Miller

Improvement, in all its forms, is vital to the future success of managers and leaders.  In military operations, actionable intelligence is information that is considered reliable enough and important enough to warrant immediate action.  That’s what we need in our lives – actionable intelligence on ourselves.

It’s no surprise that effectiveness is linked to the impact a leader has on others.  Emotional intelligence and human interaction skills are emerging as critical barometers for success.  Honest feedback is perhaps the single most important factor when trying to evaluate a leader’s impact on others.   Important as the truth may be, many don’t offer the truth and many don’t want to hear it.  Leaders struggle to determine which input is reliable and how to improve their feedback loop.

In this cutting edge workshop we will discuss the leader’s need for accurate feedback.  We’ll explore why it can be hard to get the truth from others and the leader’s role in soliciting honest input.  We will look at the relationship between trust and truth and consider some mutually enhancing approaches.  We will even discover methods we can use to protect our own boundaries while encouraging others to continue offering critiques.

Key discussion topics will include:

  • Why can’t I trust my own judgment?
  • How can leaders determine who to trust for feedback?
  • How should we deal with feedback that contradicts input from others?

C.W. Miller, the founder and president of Custom Training Concepts, has been creating high performance teams in a variety of industries for over twenty-five years.  He is known nationwide for his inspirational keynotes, thought provoking seminars and highly interactive workshops. His focus on the human interaction skills of leaders has created positive impacts in health care, manufacturing, state agencies, education and the military, as well as in professional associations, non-profit, civic, and church organizations.

Nineteen years of his career were spent in Chicago helping build a small organization into one of the leaders in the healthcare industry.  During this time, C.W. attended Northwestern University’s Kellogg Graduate School of Management and in 1990 was named Manager of the Year at Everest Healthcare Services.    He was elected to Who’s Who in Science and Industry, sat on standards committees with the Association for the Advancement of Medical Instrumentation, served as president of the National Association of Nephrology Technologists and was on the editorial review board of Nephrology News and Issues.

In 1998 he was named Hot Springs (Arkansas) Civitan of the Year and received the Civitan International Distinguished President Award in 2000.  As Governor of the Ozark District of Civitan in 2005-06 he earned the Distinguished Governor’s Award with his district finishing as the top district in the world in overall growth.

C.W. is a member of the American Society of Training and Development, the West Central Arkansas Society for Human Resource Management and the Human Resource Management Association of Arkansas.  He’s also a member of the Hot Springs Chamber of Commerce, served two terms as Chairman of the Board for the Hot Springs Village Chamber of Commerce and is an accredited member of the Better Business Bureau of Arkansas.
