Service and Emotional Support Animals in the Workplace

Traditionally, most employers do not allow employees to bring their pets to work with them. However, employers with no pet policies may still face requests from employees to bring their service or emotional support animals to work. These requests have become increasingly more common as more people routinely attempt to use their service or emotional support animal in public accommodations. Employers must be mindful of the legal requirements and potential pitfalls when responding to employee requests. This presentation will cover the applicable federal law that addresses service and emotional support animals in the workplace and how employers can handle these requests.

Joe Kraska is an attorney with Cross, Gunter, Witherspoon & Galchus, P.C. Originally from Minnesota, Joe served on active duty in the United State Air Force for nearly ten years. After leaving active duty in 2013, he joined and is still serving part-time in the Arkansas Air National Guard. Joe holds a B.A. in Political Science from the American Military University, and a J.D. from the University of Arkansas at Little Rock and has been admitted to the Arkansas Bar. Joe’s practice is focused on labor and employment law.
